This is a local house close to where I live and I think it fits the Illustration Friday theme this week of "Lonely" very well. The complete story of this house is a mystery to me, but I have heard (and don't know if there is any truth to it) that a doctor who wanted to do something with the land (besides use it as a residence site) purchased the property. The city ordinances would not let him (change it to a business zone) and he put it up for sale again. That seems like years and years ago and now it sits.
The house has blue-slate siding and the roof is painted red and I mean painted too. One day last summer I took a walk down that street and discovered that the backside of the roof is not quite so red. The sellers apparently only painted the front side of the roof to spruce up the street view of the house.
Anyway... now it sits and seems very lonely to me.
If you know the real story, let me know.

Your "lonely" house is really beautiful, and I love the part about the roof being partially painted. I'm so happy to have found your blog via IF. I've never been good at keeping as sketchbook, and I'm fascinated by those who are so successful at it! I'll be visiting again.

Thanks for the complements. I encourage you to get a sketchbook and just keep opening the pages, drawing and turning the page. You can always find something to draw anywhere you happen to find yourself. It is a good way to pass the time if you have to wait and a good way to spend time all the time.

You've captured the lonely feeling of the place quite simply and beautifully. So well done--and what a lonely, interesting story!
