The whole view from the Bunkhouse back porch at Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Yellowstone National Park. Well it is not the whole view, but it is the view I sketched during my last class demostration after the rain forced us to drier places. A beautiful place in all seasons and all weather conditions.
The last day of my YAI class was pretty rainy after 11:30am that morning. In fact, I think it rained just about all day with a few short breaks in there. This made us retreat to the Bunkhouse at the ranch and the last demo was on the porch. Honestly, I had always wanted to sit there and sketch the view. So the rain helped me get my chance to capture this scene.
This is the whole view of Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park that I sketched as a demo over the entire spread in my sketchbook. The whole valley was a study in greens this month and the water weaving through it was beautiful. If you ever get a chance to visit the park, this is the place to see animals and get away from the crowds for a bit.
Check out the Yellowstone Assoication Institute's offerings at Lamar Buffalo Ranch to go there and stay awhile too.
The Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park was the location of my 2013 YAI workshop. We were based out at the Lamar Buffalo Ranch and this pullout is just down the road. It is one of my favorite views of the whole valley. When I was there on July 6th, a fresh buffalo carcass was directly west of this view. The locals (bears, wolves and other critters) were sure to have a great feast.
This was a class demo that I was able to sketch out on the last day of my Yellowstone Association class. I did the drawing on July 5th and then we were rained on so we had to run. The day after I was able to go back and add some watercolor to the sketch.
In the past four years I have been able to visit Yellowstone National Park once each year. On each visit, the first thing I have done is drive straight to Artist Point at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and draw this waterfall. It is one of my favorite places in the world and I hope to visit again and again and draw, sketch and paint.
This was a small herd of bison that went through the
cabin area at Lamar Buffalo Ranch in Yellowstone National Park last
week. My Yellowstone Association Institute course concluded there on
July 5, 2013 and I will be posting some sketches and pics from that trip
Lower Falls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park. This was a sketch I did last September during a day when the skies were full of smoke from controlled burns in the park. It provided for a different filter of sorts and different colors that day.
