This is a scan of my entry for the 4x6/6x4 Postcard Exhibit over at the Art Gallery at Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, Colorado. This little card is india ink and marker on a 4x6 piece of watercolor paper.
The 2013 4x6/6x4 Postcard Exhibit closes at the end of this week on Friday, March 8,2013. All artwork is 4x6 or 6x4 and is priced to sell at $20 each and each purchase is a pure tax-deductible purchase! Proceeds go to support the Art Department Endowment Fund to help future students.
Come buy a tiny piece of art and get a tax deduction at the same time!!
Here is another 4x6 inch postcard with a layer of one-inch squares collaged together to make the background. Once again, each square was cut from a piece of junk mail. I then put a (sparrow shaped) layer of gesso on top of the card and drew a sparrow with a Pitt Micron pen. The last step was to watercolor the image.
I have given my class the assignment to complete the Jerry's Artarama Junk Mail Challenge that the art supply company has issued in recent months. This is my solution to the assignment.
This is a 4x6 inch postcard with a layer of one-inch squares collaged together to make the background. Each square was cut from a piece of junk mail that I have received in recent months. I then put a layer of gesso (sparrow shaped) on top of the card and drew a sparrow with a Pitt Micron pen. The last step was to watercolor the image. This was an interesting endeavor since the watercolor did not soak into the gesso as it would on watercolor paper. I am happy with the results and want to try it again.
