The activity of drawing in a sketchbook, writing in a journal or a combination of both can be cathartic. Ultimately, bringing about a spiritual renewal or release from the tensions of stress and everyday life. It is a perfect outlet for exploring creativity and documenting a moment in time. This is my basic philosophy on keeping a sketchbook and the foundation for the name of my website (www.sketchingspirit.com) and sketchblog.
The Sketching Spirit logo is a stylized dove with a five pointed star placed at a slight angle in the heart of the dove’s body. Doves as a symbol have a long-standing tradition representing the spirit of God’s presence. Sketching is often a means of meditation for myself and so I chose the dove symbol along with a simple star shape. I have always been enamored with stars, especially the five pointed variety. The star is placed at a slight angle, because sketches, life and myself are not always perfect. They are often a little cockeyed.
