A quick pencil sketch of a wonderful sculpture by Daniel Chester French entitled Benediction and completed in 1922. Mr. French is best known for the seated Abraham Lincoln found at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. This small-scale sculpture is a beautiful winged, hooded angel figure who reaches her arms out with palms down blessing those who appear before her person.

I attended the AIGA Design Conference in Denver last week. It was an great experience and every designer should attend one of these conferences.
Here are some pictures from the event including one of my all time favorite sculptures, “I See What You Mean” the large blue bear that peeks inside the Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs’ Public Art Program sponsored the artwork and the artist who created the piece is Lawrence Argent, an Associate Professor at the University of Denver. The City of Denver has information on the artist and a video clip of the bear’s installation on their web site.
