Charles Wesley was born on December 18, 1707 to Susanna Wesley and Samuel Wesley in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England. Charles was the younger brother of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement. In 1730 he graduated from Christ College in Oxford with a B.A. and earned an M.A. from the same institution in 1732.
Charles Wesley was ordained deacon and elder in the Church of England in 1735. He died March 29, 1788 after writing over 5000 hymns including: Christ the Lord Is Risen Today and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.
