Welcome to sketchingspirit. This sketchblog is a place where I post images from my sketchbooks, journals, and paintings. Plus a few random thoughts, ideas and other inspirations as they cross my path.
In the fall semester I always present a crash course in watercolor for my sketchbook class. This was the demo (after a pen and ink drawing by Van Gogh) I completed for the class last month.
I decided to experiment with the Field Notes brand of notebook this year. This is one of my architectural explorations of the "Pagoda" building at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone. It was a fun and I now love these little books, but I need to skip a page to avoid the marker bleed.
This quirky self-portrait was another assignment for my students last fall semester. I decided to complete one as well and add some limited color with colored pencil
Practicing what I preach. (Bad Pun intended.) I encourage my students to draw what is in front of them. This is a recent sketch of mine where I took my own advice. Christmas at Crossroads United Methodist Church, Grand Junction, Colorado this year.
According to the submission guidelines for this round of Mail Me Art, I was to take a photo while dropping the piece off in the mailbox. However, the post office worker stamped it quickly and I couldn't take it after it had cancellation mark. So I took a quick photo right then and there in front of her. I bet she thought I was a strange camper.
